This category holds Go web frameworks along with two subcategories, Routers and Middlewares. Frameworks range from thin layers over net/http that add routing, binding and rendering, to full application stacks with ORM, configuration and code generation. Since Go 1.22, the standard net/http ServeMux matches methods and path wildcards such as "GET /items/{id}", so many small services no longer need a third-party router at all.
Gin is the most widely used framework, with a radix-tree router, JSON binding and validation through go-playground/validator. Echo offers a similar feature set with a slightly different API. Fiber follows Express.js conventions and runs on fasthttp, which means its handlers are not standard net/http handlers. Beego and GoFrame are full-stack frameworks with ORM, caching and tooling included. CloudWeGo's Hertz targets high-throughput microservices, GoFr is an opinionated microservice framework, and Goa and Huma generate OpenAPI documentation from Go code. Revel has been quiet since 2023.
Choose by how much you want decided for you. For APIs that should stay close to the standard library, use ServeMux or chi with standard middleware. Gin or Echo add binding, validation and a large middleware ecosystem. Pick Huma or Goa when an accurate OpenAPI spec matters, and a full-stack framework only if you want its conventions across the whole application.
Gin is a web framework written in Go! It features a martini-like API with much better performance, up to 40 times faster. If you need performance and good productivity.
